Education often becomes challenging for children when families are struggling with financial pressure, and this is especially true in India where many bright students are forced to drop out due to crises at home. To support such learners, HDFC Bank has introduced the Parivartan’s Educational Crisis Scholarship Support Programme, also known as the ECSS initiative. This scholarship is designed to help students from school to postgraduate level continue their studies without interruption. It is part of the bank’s social responsibility efforts and has already created opportunities for thousands of young minds who would otherwise find it difficult to afford education.
The programme is open to students studying in schools, colleges, and professional courses. Children from Class 1 right up to Class 12, as well as those pursuing diploma, ITI, or polytechnic education, are eligible to apply. Undergraduate students in both general and professional streams such as commerce, arts, engineering, and medicine, and even those in postgraduate courses like MA, MBA, or MTech, can also receive support. What makes this scholarship truly inclusive is that it does not limit itself to a particular level of education but instead ensures that help reaches learners across every stage of their academic journey.
Eligibility for the scheme is straightforward. Students must have scored at least 55 percent in their last academic year and their family income should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh annually. In addition, the bank pays special attention to children who have recently faced personal or family crises that could affect their education. This could include situations such as the loss of a parent or guardian, sudden unemployment in the family, or unexpected health issues at home. By focusing on these factors, the scholarship provides relief exactly where it is needed the most.
The financial assistance varies depending on the level of education. School students from Classes 1 to 6 can receive support of up to fifteen thousand rupees, while those from Class 7 to 12 and diploma or ITI students may get up to eighteen thousand. Undergraduate students in general courses can receive as much as thirty thousand, while those in professional courses like BTech or MBBS may be supported with fifty thousand. Postgraduate learners are not left behind either. General courses like MA or MCom can attract thirty-five thousand in aid, whereas professional programmes like MBA or MTech can receive up to seventy-five thousand. This tiered system ensures that the scholarship aligns with the actual cost of education at different stages.
